prices of eggs, chicken, and Hilsa fish have increased. This was observed during a Friday visit to Karwan Bazar in Dhaka (September 14). It was noted that eggs are being sold at BDT 155 per dozen. Broiler chicken is being sold at BDT 165 to 170 per kilogram. Layer chicken is being sold at BDT 310 per kilogram. Sonali chicken is priced between BDT 230 and 250, while the native chicken is sold at BDT 480 per kilogram.
Muhammad Suman Mia, a chicken vendor at Karwan Bazar, told Barta7, “There is a lack of adequate supply of chicken and eggs, which is causing the prices to rise. Previously, chicken and eggs came from Feni and Noakhali regions, but the supply from these areas has decreased.”
During a market visit, it was observed that beef is being sold at 750 Taka per kilogram. Large Hilsa fish are priced at BDT 1800 each, while smaller Hilsa fish are sold at BDT 800 per kilogram. Large rui fish are priced between BDT 280 and 300 per kilogram, and smaller rohu fish are sold at BDT 220 per kilogram. Large pangas fish are priced at BDT 310 per kilogram, while smaller pangas fish are sold at BDT 180 to 200 per kilogram. Tilapia fish are being sold at BDT 220 per kilogram.
During a visit to the vegetable market, it was observed that pointed gourd is being sold at BDT 40 per kilogram, potatoes at BDT 60 per kilogram, green chilies at BDT 160 per kilogram, and onions at BDT 110 per kilogram.
Another essential item is rice. It was noted that nazirshail rice is being sold at BDT 70 to 90 per kilogram, stash rice at BDT 58 per kilogram, Chini gura rice at BDT 120 per kilogram, and moniker rice at BDT 70 to 72 per kilogram.
